The H.J. van Heekplein is the central point when it comes to shopping. It is also the largest square in Enschede. Here you will find the chain stores. If you are looking to buy groceries, there are plenty of options. Enschede offers a wide variety of supermarkets, toko’s and 24-hour shops. If you are looking for some exotic ingredients, then try to do some shopping at the toko. Most of the 24-hour shops offer basic needs.
All stores in the center are open 7 days a week, Monday through Sunday. Regular shopping hours are from 09:00 - 18:00, with some exceptions. On Mondays most stores are open from 11:00. On Thursday evening it is shopping night until 21:00. Finally, every Sunday the stores are open from 12:00 - 17:00.
Opening hours for supermarkets and toko’s are slightly different. Most supermarkets open at 8:00 am and close in the evening. As mentioned in the name, 24-hour shops are open all day.

In Enschede, stores are open every Sunday. The stores are open on Sundays from 12:00 to 17:00. With Easter, White Sunday, Christmas, New Years and during the Enschede Marathon stores are not open. For other exceptions, please this website.

There is a commodity market at H.J van Heekplein twice a week (Tuesday and Saturday). At the market you can find all kinds of products: from food to flowers, textiles, perfume and clothing. Every Saturday almost 60,000 people visit the market.
