Arts & Culture

Besides going to college you might also want to attend a cabaret show and a concert or go to the cinema with your friends. That is possible!

Enschede is a city full of culture. In the centre of the city you find for example the Wilminktheater (Wilmink Theatre), Muziekcentrum Enschede (Music Centre), Metropool and Concordia (film) theatre. They offer various possibilities for films, cabaret, theatre and music. Close to the pubs and nightlife spots at the Oude Markt is cinema Kinepolis. That way you can watch a film first and have a drink in the city centre afterwards.

The Roombeek district is the second cultural centre of Enschede. Here you will find various cultural institutions like De Museumfabriek (museum factory) and Rijksmuseum Twenthe. The artistic and creative culture mile connects Roombeek to the city centre.

You will also find several smaller exposition spaces and workshops where new artists show their talent. Plenty of things to discover! For more information go to the Tourist Info Point in the city centre,

Look at  (in Dutch) for the complete range of cultural  offerings.

Want to see a film? There is always something that you like. In one of the ten rooms at Kinepolis, next to Go Planet Parc, or at the city cinema Wolff Cineast. Are you more interested in art films? At the Oude Markt you will find Concordia Film, the cultural film house of Enschede.

When you are a student, you will have plenty of time for a night out. The Wilminktheater and the Muziekcentrum Enschede will give you everything you need. If you show your student card you will be able to have a pleasant evening at a reduced rate.

For visitors of the shows there is the Vrijhof Dinner Deal at Vrijhof Cultural Centre on the campus. The shows are accessible to everyone. For more information go to www.utwente/cultuur. Concordia Theatre also offers special rates for students. The intimate and classic atmosphere make this the most beautiful small theatre in The Netherlands.

Do you love visual arts? Rijksmuseum Twenthe has a varied collection from the Middle Ages to the present time. You can see the works of famous artists like Breughel, Ruisdael, Breitner and Jongkind, but also more contemporary work by Richard Long and Nicholas Pope.

De Museumfabriek (The Museum Factory) is a museum about nature and engineering, art and science, birds, flowers, fossils, machines and old and new objects. For people who wonder;  about stars, planets, the blue skies and the clouds. For people who want to know where we come from and where we are going. For people who understand that you will never know, but still keep on searching.

Enschede has the most beautiful synagogue of Western Europe. The stained glass windows, mosaics and Thora scrolls certainly make it worth to visit the synagogue of Enschede.
